It's 1999…

In the old empty factory hall of VD Leegte Metaal in Hapert, a group of 22 driven people embarked on a new adventure. The company they had previously worked for, LeeBur, had moved its container systems production to Finland. 

With the support of Wim van der Leegte, the former co-owner of LeeBur and Managing Director and Owner of VDL Groep at the time, they were given the opportunity to set up a new company. Wim provided the funds and the premises. Development and production of the new container systems was set to begin.

Thanks to a strong sales team and dealer network, VDL Container Systems built a large customer base. The success of the container systems was also evident in the service department. “Nothing ever breaks here”, a German customer once ‘complained’. Expansion of the product range to include skip loaders, cable systems and chain systems soon followed.

With the acquisition of Smits Spreader Systems in 2004, we further strengthened our market position. This led to growing sales and increasing employee numbers, and in turn our relocation to a new premises in Hapert. 

And that is where we have been welding and assembling our own products for years now. The fact that we have in-house production – and that critical parts are supplied from VDL Groep – means we are not only flexible and fast, but that we can also guarantee high quality standards.  

On top of that, we are also constantly adapting to respond to changes in the market and our customers’ needs. This is how we are able to continue developing our container handling systems into even safer, more efficient and sustainable products.

The kind of system you need depends on a number of factors such as what you process or transport, the weight to be handled and the chassis on which the system must be mounted. This is why we do not produce standard systems; instead, you configure your own system with our specialists. That way, you always work with an installation that is perfectly suited to your situation.

Our products are known for being robust and reliable. By carefully selecting and training the dealers of our systems, we keep your systems at peak performance. That includes innovations like automatic notifications when your system requires maintenance and reading out data to solve problems quickly and prevent downtime. We are also committed to an eco-friendly transport sector through our focus on energy efficiency, renewable fuels and electrification. That means that by choosing our environmentally friendly systems, you are not only saving costs but also contributing to an improved ecological footprint.

Safety

You need to be sure you can safely handle thousands of tonnes. Not just today, but on into the future as well. By putting safety at the forefront of our designs, we prevent deployment failures. Here, too, we make use of important information from the field. Among other things, we work with the customer to regularly monitor real-world use of the systems. And our team of engineers get to work on an even better design.

Accessibility

Our production site is in Hapert, south of Eindhoven, near the Belgian border. While this is a very central location, we also have a successful, well-established network of dealers and agents around the world. So there is always a dealer near you. And this ensures that your systems will be fully operational in no time.

Speed

Delays in your processes cost money. Therefore, your container handling system needs to work quickly and efficiently. And equally important, to keep working. We understand this, so you can expect exceptionally fast delivery of our products and parts. And when your systems need maintenance? Our dealers, agents and service technicians keep them running.
