RAPID SWITCHING BETWEEN CONTAINERS AND TRAILERS
In an intermodal terminal, it is important to be able to switch quickly between handling containers and trailers. Therefore, we designed a spreader with four piggyback arms, which you can retract within the dimensions of the spreader for ‘stacking’. It is also possible to place the containers and trailers in a ship's cell.
A SPREADER YOU CAN RELY ON
When you work in a smaller terminal, chances are you don't have equipment that can take over in case of breakdowns, maintenance or repairs to your machines. So it is essential that your machines are reliable.
We have taken this into account in the design of our piggyback spreaders. We use as few electronics and mechanical, rotating components as possible. This reduces the risk of downtime and you can rely on the availability of your spreader.
HEAVY-DUTY HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS
Two critical components of our piggyback spreader (the telescopic system and the flippers) use cylinders. These components move linearly instead of rotating and are therefore less prone to failure. They also require less maintenance and are faster and cheaper to maintain, repair and replace.
24/7 AVAILABILITY THANKS TO DOUBLE MOTOR AND PUMP SYSTEM
When you use your spreader intensively and under tough conditions, there is always a chance that something will break down. To prevent complete downtime, our spreaders have a dual motor and pump system. This clever hydraulic design ensures that if one of the two systems breaks down, the other will keep working. And so will your spreader.

TAILOR-MADE PIGGYBACK SPREADERS
At VDL Container Systems, we tailor the design of your spreader to your requirements and (RMG / RTG) crane. For example, we supply spreaders for 20 and 40 ft containers, but you can also handle containers up to 45 ft with our telescopic system.
HYBRID PIGGYBACK SPREADERS
Do you mainly work with containers? Then a (partially) electric piggyback spreader is a smart choice. In this hybrid version, only the piggyback arms are hydraulically driven. All other functions are fully electric. Our hybrid piggyback spreaders require less maintenance than hydraulic spreaders, are more energy-efficient, quieter and better for the environment as they use little or no oil.
PIGGYBACK ATTACHMENT
Need the piggyback only rarely? Then opt for just a piggyback attachment. Once attached at 20 ft, it can be operated by any standard spreader. The arms are not collapsible. This makes the frame simple and therefore economical.

Mechanically connected piggyback arms This option is interesting for rail terminals where mainly piggyback operations take place and 'stacking' is not (often) needed. This is because the mechanical connection between the piggyback arms makes the spreader simpler and therefore more robust and more suitable for continuous piggyback use. |

Rotation and centre of gravity adjustment Can't rotate the crane your spreader is hanging from? Then your spreader has to do it, to load the container onto the truck the right way. This is possible when you choose our rotation function. It may be that the weight in the container is disproportionately distributed. To prevent this from causing danger, you can use the centre of gravity adjustment to move the centre of gravity. |

Damping system All four twistlocks that attach your container to the spreader can individually move up and down 10 centimetres. This dampens shock and noise. |

Camera Need better visibility during container handling? We can mount a camera on your spreader that gives a close-up view of everything in razor-sharp detail. |

Weighing system By adding a weighing system to your piggyback spreader, you know exactly how much your container or trailer weighs. |

Height detection With our height detection, your crane automatically receives a signal when the spreader approaches the container. This allows you to approach the container more slowly, minimising the risk of damage and accidents. |

Capacity increase or decrease Do you handle containers or trailers with a lower weight than your maximum capacity? Then we can also design lighter spreaders for you. Just need a system that can carry more weight? No problem. |

Automatic lubrication system The twistlocks you use to pick up and turn containers and trailers need to be lubricated from time to time. Our automatic lubrication system counts how many times they rotate and lubricates them fully automatically after a certain number of rotations. This keeps them working smoothly. |
