SHIP-TO-SHORE SPREADERS

A spreader you can rely on

Your ship-to-shore spreaders work day and night and face heavy shock loads. We have taken this into account in our design. For example, we use as few electronics and mechanical, rotating components as possible. This reduces the risk of downtime and you can rely on the availability of your spreader.

Heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders

Two critical components of our ship-to-shore spreader (the telescopic system and the flippers) use cylinders. These components move linearly instead of rotating and are therefore less prone to failure. They also require less maintenance and are faster and cheaper to maintain, repair and replace.

24/7 availability thanks to double motor and pump system

When you use your spreader intensively and under tough conditions, there is always a chance that something will break down. To prevent complete downtime, our spreaders have a dual motor and pump system. This clever hydraulic design ensures that if one of the two systems breaks down, the other will keep working. And so will your spreader.

Bespoke ship-to-shore spreaders

At VDL Container Systems, we tailor the design of your spreader to your requirements. For example, we supply spreaders for 20 and 40 ft containers, but you can also opt for a 45 ft stopper. The modular building blocks allow you to configure the spreader as you wish.

Modular features

Twinlift

With our twinlift option, you pick up two 20 ft ISO containers from the ship at the same time. Want to save even more time? Then choose the 'separating twinlift' option. With a sliding arm, you create extra space between the two containers during lifting. This makes picking them up on the quay easier and faster.

Memory system

Especially for our separating twinlift, we have developed a memory system, which allows you to infinitely programme the distance between two containers.

Capacity increase or decrease

Do you handle containers with a lower weight than your maximum capacity? Then we can also design lighter spreaders for you. Just need a system that can carry more weight? No problem.

Height detection

With our height detection, your crane automatically receives a signal when the spreader approaches the container. This allows you to approach the container more slowly, minimising the risk of damage and accidents.

Automatic lubrication system

The twistlocks you use to pick up and rotate containers need to be lubricated from time to time. Our automatic lubrication system counts how many times they rotate and lubricates them fully automatically after a certain number of rotations. This keeps them working smoothly.

(Noise) attenuation

Our damping system dampens heavy shocks and noise. This reduces the impact on the spreader and on people in the surrounding area.

Electrical

Spreaders we design for loading one container at a time can also be supplied electrically. Although a hydraulic system is more powerful, an electric spreader is more energy-efficient and makes less noise. As the electric spreader does not use oil, there is no risk of water contamination in case of a breakdown.

Twin Twenty detection

Our 'Twin Twenty' container detection checks whether there are one or two containers hanging under the spreader and that the spreader is also in the correct position for the number of containers to be lifted. So you always work safely.

This is what you can expect from us

Flexibility

The kind of system you need depends on a number of factors such as what you process or transport, the weight to be handled and the chassis on which the system must be mounted. This is why we do not produce standard systems; instead, you configure your own system with our specialists. That way, you always work with an installation that is perfectly suited to your situation.

Quality

Quality is paramount in everything we do, from our products to our communication and service. This is reflected in our ISO certifications and reliable systems. Our products are known for being robust and reliable. By carefully selecting and training the dealers of our systems, we keep your systems at peak performance. That means you can continue working efficiently.

Innovation

The world is changing, and we are continuously adapting accordingly. For instance, we are constantly making our systems smarter. That includes innovations like automatic notifications when your system requires maintenance and reading out data to solve problems quickly and prevent downtime. We are also committed to an eco-friendly transport sector through our focus on energy efficiency, renewable fuels and electrification. That means that by choosing our environmentally friendly systems, you are not only saving costs but also contributing to an improved ecological footprint.

Safety

You need to be sure you can safely handle thousands of tonnes. Not just today, but on into the future as well. By putting safety at the forefront of our designs, we prevent deployment failures. Here, too, we make use of important information from the field. Among other things, we work with the customer to regularly monitor real-world use of the systems. And our team of engineers get to work on an even better design.

Accessibility

Our production site is in Hapert, south of Eindhoven, near the Belgian border. While this is a very central location, we also have a successful, well-established network of dealers and agents around the world. So there is always a dealer near you. And this ensures that your systems will be fully operational in no time.

Speed

Delays in your processes cost money. Therefore, your container handling system needs to work quickly and efficiently. And equally important, to keep working. We understand this, so you can expect exceptionally fast delivery of our products and parts. And when your systems need maintenance? Our dealers, agents and service technicians keep them running.
